When you're birth control fails, it's nice to know that you literally have a Plan B. I've used Plan B - the morning after pill - several times. It's not an abortifacient...you're not having an abortion. It's just a dose of hormones that prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall and also thickens cervical fluids making it harder for sperm to swim and fertilize your egg.
